Threads of expressions
A network of expressions
Writers, musicians, comedians, dancers, chefs, painters, poets, share their thoughts, emotions, food, wit, body, mind - each, an external expression. A material extension or a translation of some sort. This production appears to be one link in a body of connections threading itself to be consumed by another.
Grouping consumption
Once a consumed expression is shared and multiplied, it mutates - a different form of art is produced - creating groups, communities, cultures, traditions. It’s always interesting to notice that those who have been the most oppressed, often by others, are typically the ones profoundly attached to their culture, history, music, taste, or art.
Editing expressions
These groups and cultures that have formed over progressive connections are reviewed, and edited during their evolutionary network. Yet, in many parts the physical sphere, people don’t review the basis of these once beautifully formed expressions of thoughts. Like many thinkers have explored before - should the preservation of these diverse ‘modes of being’ as they are, in their raw state, be a priority? Avoid diluting them? It’s uncertain when and if they might be useful. Like seed banks, they remain ‘living cognitive reservoirs’, yet, if big enough, they will have a negative impact. ‘Control’ comes into question. Who decides. If these live reservoirs know their value and position - is ‘control’ relevant, or are they at risk of diluting themselves. If pure, one argues the former.
The primal art
The most essential form of art, like many other forms that serve a cultural landscape, is in a spiral of obsolete expressions; food. Tasting, can be a passive experience, serving an important pleasure - a dialogue between time and supply chains. Like looking at a picture, listening to music, or being within a space - perceptions of data
